Reflection of the Course

*********************************************
(1) "What is a Blog??" -- Before taking this course, I've never created a Blog. I thought that a Blog is an on-line diary which can be viewed by others. Some Bloggers might create a blog not only for sharing of information, but also for making money (provided that the Blog can get a high hit rate).

After taking the course, I understand that educators have been exploring the use of Blogs in teaching and learning. (See: http://connect.educause.edu/blog) In fact, "Blogs" have already emerged in both school sector and higher education sector and many have tried integrated it in their curriculum.

To learn more about a blog and how it be used in teaching, please click HERE to learn more about "Blog".

(2) Learning Outcomes -- In addition to gaining experience in creating and maintaining a personal blog, I've learnt about how to create a simple digital photo story and how to create FLASH movies. Though I've already got some ideas in creating a Flash file before taking this course, the course allows me to have more practices on using the software and shows me some advanced techniques (like making a slider). The process of doing the final assignment (i.e. the interactive visual representation), though time consumming, is quite enjoyable and interesting!

(3) Classmates' Support -- Blogging provides a good channel for interaction (receiving & giving comments) of all classmates. In fact, many of their posted materials are very useful and their works are very creative. I've also learnt to create "more interactive" PowerPoint file after viewing their fascinating one.

Thank you so much for all!! ^_^

Project : Final Product

*************************************
OOOOOOO ^_^ OOOOOOO

Finally, I've created a flash movie for the project. Description of the interactive respresentation has been put under the "movie" below. Enjoy!!
*************************************

############ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ############
Ivan and I should be in a group initially. However, Ivan was fully occupied with his personal matters and was unable to contact me for doing this final assignment. We then do this final assignment (Interactive Representation) separately.

Since I'm not a teacher, I decided not to create a teaching aid but an interactive representation that serves as a promotional material of a BSc programme. In anticipation that Environmental Protection has received great attention from both the government and the public, I've chosen this "BSc(Hons) in Environmental Science and Management programme" as the central topic. Users should be able to get relevant information from this SWF file.

Description of the final product (interactive representation):
(1) Create a simple movie to bring out the PROJECT TOPIC
(2) Create a menu for selection of different sections:
- General Information
- Objective
- Admissions Requirements
- Programme Structure
- Studying What?
- Graduation Requirements
(3) Display information (in text, graphic, movie -- techiques of creating button, slider and movie were used) in the same "frame" after pressing related button in the menu page
(4) Create a "Play Again" button to enable users to start viewing the file from the begining.

Project : Second Draft (Button -- Trial version)

*************************************
I'm not sure whether I can "manage" the button initially. It's lucky that I've got successful results after several trials. The button effect will be modified later and fewer texts will be used. Cheer up and carry up!! ;-)

Project Outline (Storyboard in PPT file)

Because of time constraint, I've only made a very rough outline of the presentation of the project. In general, a flash movie will be prepared with similar idea displayed in the PowerPoint file :-
(1) Use a simple movie to introduce the PROJECT TOPIC
(2) Develop buttons to show info of each sub-section (on-press)
(3) Use movies/graphics/charts/texts (in an interactive way as appropriate) to present information for each sub-section (e.g. General Info, Objective, Prog Structure etc...)

Grateful for your comment!! Many thanks!! ^_^

Project Topic: Introduction to a BSc programme

Finally, I got a message from Ivan on 3 May saying that he's now in Hong Kong. However, I'm still not able to contact him via mobile and, hence can't disucss with him about the project topic.

I've therefore sought Dr Churchill's advice and confirm the project topic as captioned. Information is attached in the PowerPoint file at: http://iln.cite.hku.hk/com/1374/users/slchiu2/Project-Information.ppt
Outline of an interactive visual representation shall be developed based on the PowerPoint information and uploaded soon!
Carry on!! ^_^

7th Class

During the class, we heard our classmates present their idea for the project. Seems that everything goes alright.....(I meant out classmates). However, as Ivan is out of town, we've got problem in effective discussion on the Project. Hence....please give us some more time....the storyboard is coming soon!!

******About the task of creating movie******
The software of Photostory is quite user-friendly and it let me create a movie easily. Yet, I've got a problem in putting it on the BLOG...as I don't know how to write the HTML script for uploading the file. So, I've put it in a flash file and upload on the BLOG.

Can anyone help by telling me the script for putting the wmv file on the BLOG??? Thanks so much.... ^_^

To create a Movie!!

*************************************
Task 3: To design a simple learning object to help student understand what impacts shape of a rain drop.

This time, my groupmate (Ivan) and I disucssed about how to present the idea (i.e. the storyboard) and try to work out a separate design.

Third Class

Today, we're looking at the work (for task2) of our classmates. Many of the visual displays are very attractive and interesting.

When being asked to choose the best display, I had a query in my mind -- what's the function of the visual display? In case the design is for "promotion purpose" (like a poster to invite people to attend a seminar on the Earth's atmosphere), colorful graphics are preferred and long description of words may not be appropriate.

By the way, people have to use their own imagination to produce and understand a visual display. The learner may not make correct guess to each picture if text is missing. In case the design is for teaching, text description should not be omitted (but it's better in point form) for factual info which should have only one "right" answer.
